Yes, you can cancel a GTA 6 pre-order, but the rules depend on the store, and on PlayStation the pre-load matters. PlayStation Store refunds a digital pre-order only if you haven't started downloading it, and pre-loading counts. Pre-loading opens on 10 November. Microsoft lets you cancel online, and a cancellation after you've been charged becomes a refund. Rockstar Store's boxed copies have to be cancelled through Xsolla before they ship.

PlayStation Store: the 14-day rules
PlayStation's cancellation policy splits digital pre-orders into two cases, both on the condition that you haven't started downloading or streaming the main game, "including pre-loading before release". Confirmed [1]
- Paid more than 14 days before release: you can cancel at any time before the release date and get a refund. For a 19 November release, that means payment taken before about 5 November.
- Paid 14 days or less before release: you can cancel up to 14 days after payment was taken.
- Once the download starts: no refund unless the game is faulty.
- Automatic downloads: PlayStation warns that downloads happen automatically if Automatic Downloads is on. GTA 6's PS5 pre-load opens at midnight local time on 10 November, so turn it off if you're still deciding. [1] [2]
- Bonus content: any extra content you could already use stops working when you cancel. [1]
To cancel, PlayStation's support page says to contact it. The refund goes back to your original payment method where possible. A few payment types, including Paysafecard, Sofort, iDEAL, mobile billing and vouchers, are refunded to your PlayStation wallet instead. Confirmed [1]
Microsoft Store and Xbox
- When you're charged: if you pay with money in your Microsoft account, you're charged straight away. Otherwise a digital pre-order may be charged up to 10 days before release. Confirmed [1]
- How to cancel: go to Order history at account.microsoft.com/billing/orders, find the pre-order and select Cancel item. If there's no Cancel option, you've already been charged, and you can ask for a refund instead. Confirmed [1]
- After billing: "If you cancel a pre-order after it's billed but before it's released, we'll process it as a refund." Confirmed [1]
- Price changes: Microsoft's pre-order price guarantee covers physical items only, not digital games. Confirmed [1]
- After launch: Xbox has a separate "Request a refund for digital games" page, which starts with a sign-in. Its eligibility rules sit in sections we couldn't read without signing in, so we don't quote a refund window here. Unknown [1]
Rockstar Store
Rockstar's GTA 6 store page says that to cancel a pre-order, you contact its fulfilment partner Xsolla using the physical item form, with your order number and the email you ordered with. Confirmed [1] Xsolla says physical pre-orders can only be cancelled before the order has shipped, and that a cancellation request covers all items in the order and can't be cancelled once sent. Confirmed [1]
After delivery, Rockstar's refund FAQ covers physical items that weren't received, or that arrive damaged or defective. In the EEA and UK you also have a 14-day right of withdrawal from when you receive the item, and you pay the return shipping. That right doesn't apply to sealed software that's been unsealed after delivery. Confirmed [1] Rockstar's 14-day rule for digital games (no more than two hours of play) covers purchases on the Rockstar Games Store, the Rockstar Games Launcher and its PC in-game stores. Digital copies bought anywhere else follow that store's policy. [1]
Before you cancel
If you're cancelling because of storage or platform worries, check the 212 GB file size and which consoles run GTA 6 first. You'll also lose the pre-order bonus if you cancel and buy again after the deadline. Prices by store are on where to buy GTA 6.
