Edge interview: Leonida's landmass is nearly GTA 4, GTA 5 and RDR2 combined

GameSpot reported on 29 October 2026 that Rockstar told Edge magazine the GTA 6 map is roughly twice the size of GTA 5's and three times Red Dead Redemption 2's, and that its total landmass is nearly as big as the playable maps of GTA 4, GTA 5 and RDR2 combined. Reported

What Rockstar told Edge
Co-studio head Aaron Garbut said GTA 6 has an "order of magnitude more interiors" than any previous Rockstar game. He said every back alley is as densely detailed as the others, and that there are places in the game he hasn't seen himself, despite working on it for years.
On the pressure to deliver after 13 years, Garbut said Rockstar hadn't compromised on scale, detail, interactivity, story or the open world.
“We've not compromised on the scale, the detail, the interactivity, the story, the open world. I feel like we've built a pyramid on Everest.”
How it fits with earlier figures
The twice-GTA-5 and three-times-RDR2 ratios match what Rockstar's Rob Nelson told content creators in August, as reported by Screen Rant. The new part is the landmass comparison with three earlier maps combined. None of these sources gives an area in square miles, so we still list the exact size as not officially stated.

The quotes come from a magazine interview, relayed by GameSpot. They're Rockstar's own words, but not posted on Rockstar's site, so they're Reported rather than Confirmed. The official printable map Rockstar promised for 19 November should be the first chance to compare its shape against the earlier games directly.
