What "PS5 Pro Enhanced" means
The badge is Sony's label for games a developer has updated for the Pro. Sony lists the kinds of upgrades a Pro-enhanced game can use: PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) for sharper 4K, "higher and more consistent frame rates" with 60Hz and 120Hz support, and advanced ray tracing. But its footnote is clear that "PS5 Pro enhanced features will vary by game". Confirmed [1] So the badge tells you Rockstar has done Pro-specific work, not which of those upgrades GTA 6 uses.
What's been reported
- Tom's Hardware reports that YouTuber Davy Jones, invited to a Rockstar North gameplay showing, said Rob Nelson told him the game runs at 30fps "for now", and that he'd need to "consult the technical team" about 60fps at launch "or later". This is second-hand, from a podcast. Reported [1]
- The same report says Digital Foundry judged the August gameplay showing, captured on a base PS5, to be upscaled to 4K from 1440p. That's analysis of footage, not a stated target. Reported [1]
- On 13 October, IGN wrote that Rockstar "has yet to confirm the performance of GTA 6 on consoles". We haven't found anything official since. Reported [1]
Should you buy a PS5 Pro for GTA 6?
You don't need one. PlayStation says GTA 6 is released for "PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro", and Sony says the PS5 Pro can play all PS5 games. Confirmed [1] [2] Until Rockstar says what the Pro version adds, any promise of better frame rates or resolution is a guess. One concrete difference is storage: the PS5 Pro has a 2TB SSD, against 825GB on the PS5 Digital Edition and 1TB on the disc model, which matters for a pre-load of up to 212 GB. [1] [2] [3]
What about Xbox Series X?
Microsoft's store lists GTA 6 as "Optimized for Xbox Series X|S", covering both consoles. It doesn't give Series X or Series S performance details either. Confirmed [1] See which consoles run GTA 6 for a side-by-side of the two store pages.
