In January 2025 analyst Matthew Ball wrote that some in the industry hoped Take-Two would price GTA 6 at $80 or even $100. It was never a leak, and Ball himself predicted $70. The US PlayStation Store now lists the Standard Edition at $79.99, so the $100 base price didn't happen. RUMOUR Doubtful Debunked

Where it came from
GameSpot reported on 21 January 2025 that Matthew Ball's 219-page State of Video Gaming in 2025 report said there was "hope" in parts of the market that GTA 6 would cost $80 or even $100, breaking a key price barrier for other games. GameSpot was clear that Ball wasn't predicting $100. His own guess was $70.
Headlines turned that into a "$100 GTA 6" rumour. No Rockstar or Take-Two source was involved.
What the store says now
When we opened the US PlayStation Store page on 4 November 2026, it listed the Standard Edition at $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $99.99. So the base game costs $80, not $100. The $100 figure matches only the Ultimate Edition, which is a different product with extra content.
Status
We mark the $100 base-price rumour as Debunked. Prices in other countries are on our where-to-buy page, each checked on that country's own store.
