What the message said
The post, "A Message from Rockstar Games", is signed by Sam Houser. Most of it is a thank-you: next month would mark Rockstar's 25th anniversary, and Houser thanked players for making the company's games possible. He wrote that Rockstar was founded in 1998 on the idea that video games could become as essential to culture as any other form of entertainment.
The news came near the end. The first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto would arrive in early December. The post didn't name the game or give a date, a platform or a setting.
“We are very excited to let you know that in early December, we will release the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto.”
What happened next
Rockstar later set the trailer for Tuesday 5 December 2023. A low-resolution copy leaked the day before, so Rockstar released the official trailer early, on 4 December in US time. Trailer 1 confirmed the name Grand Theft Auto VI, Vice City and the state of Leonida, and a 2025 release window. That window later moved, first to 26 May 2026 and then to 19 November 2026.
