The records
Guinness listed three records for Trailer 1 in its first 24 hours on YouTube. It was the most viewed video game trailer, with 90,421,491 views, and the most liked video game trailer, with 8.9 million likes. It was also the most viewed non-music YouTube video, passing a MrBeast video that had reached 59.4 million views in its first day.
“GTA VI's first trailer has become the most viewed videogame trailer on YouTube in 24 hours with 90,421,491 views.”
Other figures you'll see
Numbers for the same trailer differ depending on who measured them and when. VGC later quoted 93 million first-day views for Trailer 1, and said the video had been viewed 255 million times by May 2025. We use the Guinness figure for the 24-hour record because it's the one Guinness certified.
The leak matters too. A copy of the trailer appeared online the day before its planned premiere, and Rockstar released it early. Some of the attention went to unofficial uploads, so the official figure may undercount interest.
What Rockstar said
Guinness also quoted Rockstar founder Sam Houser on the game itself rather than the numbers, saying GTA VI continues Rockstar's efforts to push the limits of story-driven open-world games. Rockstar's own record claim came later, with Trailer 2 in May 2025.
