GTA 6 pre-load not downloading: how to fix it

If your GTA 6 pre-load isn't downloading on PS5, pause and resume it in Downloads/Uploads, then cancel and re-enable auto-download if that fails. Then check you're on the account that bought it, the console is online, 212 GB is free and system software is current. Pre-load can't start before 10 November.

First: has pre-load opened yet?

PS5: pre-load stuck or not starting

PlayStation's GTA VI page gives these fixes, in this order. Confirmed [1]

  1. Pause and resume. Open Downloads/Uploads from the control center, select the GTA VI download, select Pause, then Resume.
  2. Cancel and restart. If it still won't start, select the download, choose Cancel and Delete, return to Game Library, select GTA VI and enable auto-download again.
  3. Check the account. Be signed in to the account that pre-ordered GTA VI or redeemed the code-in-box code.
  4. Check the connection. Make sure the PS5 is online, and that Stay Connected to the Internet is on if you're using rest mode.
  5. Check storage. Make sure at least 212 GB is free in Settings > Storage.
  6. Update system software. Install the latest PS5 system software.

Xbox: pre-load not starting

  • Pre-orders bought on the Microsoft Store show under Ready to install in My games & apps; boxed copies appear there after you redeem the code. Reported [1]
  • You can manage the queue, pause and resume downloads. Xbox has said pre-orders need a steady connection with the console on or in Instant-On mode. Reported [1]
