Before Tuesday 10 November
- Confirm the purchase. Digital copies pre-load from 10 November. PlayStation says to check Order History via your avatar menu, or redeem a boxed code there. - Free 212 GB. PlayStation's support page says to ensure 212 GB of storage space. Rockstar says the pre-load file requires up to 212 GB depending on your device. Confirmed [1] [2] Check your console with the storage checker and read GTA 6 file size. On PS5, storage is under Settings > Storage.
- Know your edition. Standard and Ultimate are both digital; on PlayStation, Ultimate is listed on PlayStation Store only, and a boxed Standard copy can be upgraded there later. Confirmed [1] Compare editions before launch night, not during the download.
- Update system software. PlayStation's ready-for-launch list includes turning on automatic download and install of PS5 system software updates. Confirmed [1]
When pre-load opens (10 November)
It has not opened as of Thursday 5 November 2026. Rockstar's 3 November Newswire is titled "Grand Theft Auto VI Pre-Load Begins on November 10". Launch night (19 November)
- Unlock time. PlayStation says the game releases at midnight local time on 19 November 2026. Store timestamps then stagger that midnight by region, from New Zealand first. Confirmed midnight-local on PS5 [1]; exact store hours Reported. Your country: release time table.

- Day-one patch. No official day-one patch size has been published. Unknown Leave extra free space beyond 212 GB if you can, but we will not invent a number.
