Rockstar's giant GTA 6 mural in Brooklyn gets tagged by a graffiti artist, Kotaku reports
By Leo Vance · Published · Updated
The large Grand Theft Auto VI mural that Rockstar commissioned in Brooklyn, New York, has been tagged by a graffiti artist, Kotaku reported on 5 November 2026. According to Kotaku's Zack Zwiezen, an artist named Jelous sprayed a black-and-white logo with his name onto the bottom half of the mural late on Tuesday night (US time) and posted it on Instagram. Most fan reaction on Instagram and Reddit was negative, though some defended the tag because the mural is an advertisement. Rockstar has not commented in the coverage we found. Reported

What happened to the mural
Kotaku says Rockstar hired artists in early October to paint a GTA 6 mural in Brooklyn featuring Jason and Lucia. It took about a week to finish, and fans followed its progress online. Late on Tuesday night (US time), the graffiti artist Jelous added a basic black-and-white tag with his name to the bottom half of the artwork and then posted it on Instagram, where Kotaku says it quickly became one of his most popular posts.
Kotaku does not report any response from Rockstar or the mural's painters, and does not say whether the tag will be painted over. We will update this story only if a credible source reports that.
“Sometime late Tuesday night, Jelous quietly and sneakily sprayed a basic black-and-white logo featuring his name onto the bottom half of the large GTA 6 mural in NYC.”
How fans reacted
Kotaku describes the reaction as mostly negative. Instagram comments included short replies such as ruined and not cool, while some users argued the mural is just a big advertisement and fair game for a tag. On Reddit, a user who said they were a graffiti artist from Italy called it pretty disrespectful, even by graffiti standards, arguing that someone still put time and skill into the hand-painted piece even though it is commercial.
Kotaku's own take is that tagging a big corporate-funded mural is a pretty GTA-like move, and that the tag has made far more people aware of Jelous.
Release date check
Rockstar's own release information is unchanged: the Rockstar Games GTA VI page still lists 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with digital pre-load opening on 10 November. No PC version has been announced.
